The life of a Student Athlete

Being a student athlete is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone could ask for. You get to spend four years representing your university and playing the sport you love. There are so many benefits athletically, academically, and socially but with the many benefits of being a student athlete comes a great responsibility to represent your university well.

Being a student athlete comes with great responsibility
You will be expected to represent your team and university in a professional manner. In addition, you will be expected to train with your strength and conditioning coaches as well as practice with your team almost daily all while going to classes and studying for exams. The demands of your schedule will differ depending upon sport, level, and time of year. Many student athletes say the demanding schedule helps them enjoy their college experience more and perform better academically.

Academics in College
The college schedule is different than a traditional high school schedule. Typically, there is a lot more flexibility with your college classes and you can choose the classes that work best for you. As a student athlete you will have to work your class schedule around your practice schedule. Many schools let student athletes pick their class schedule before most of the students so that they can attend classes and practices daily.

Athletics demands
Your athletic demands will differ depending upon what level you are playing and what your individual teams schedule is like. Many student athletes have morning workouts, classes during the day, and practice in the afternoon. No matter what the individual schedule is all college student athletes will be expected to do strength and conditioning workouts in addition to team practices.

Competition home and away
Competition is one of the most fun and exciting parts of college athletics. Each sport will have a designated season that allows them to compete in and out of their conference. Your games will be either home or away and you will have travel associated with away games. Traveling for competition will allow you to see different parts of the country and form a lasting bond with your teammates.
